Meet our Staff

Brett Selby serves as FBC Purcell’s current transitional pastor. This means he is helping the church prepare for the future as it searches for the permanent pastor. He became a follower of Christ the summer after high school graduation at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly. The following spring, Brett felt a call to the pastoral ministry and enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University. He served as a pastor for 16 years in Oklahoma City, 7 years with LifeWay Church Resources, and 13 years with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. He and Brenda have been married for 37 years and they have two adult sons, Riley and Parker. Brett has earned degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Seminary, and Midwestern Baptist Seminary. He is an avid runner and enjoys reading history and biographies in his spare time.

Dr. Hinson has been leading worship in local churches for over forty years. He began writing about church music and worship in 1993, and has had articles published in periodicals such as The Choral Journal, Church Musician Today, and the Midwestern Journal of Theology. The latter publication contains his article, “Leadership of the Church Choir: An Examination of the Connection to Biblical and Historical Models with Implications for the 21st Century.”

For over nineteen years he has been the regular writer for the opening article of The Music Stand, a choir directors’ quarterly magazine contained in the Glory Songs Kit published by LifeWay Christian Resources. In 2008, Dr. Hinson authored a book chapter entitled “In Defense of Change: Crucible of the Church’s Song” which was included in Hymnology in the Service of the Church: Essays in Honor of Harry Eskew.  Dr. Hinson presented the peer-reviewed paper, “Baptist Hymnal 2008 as a Window into Baptist Worship Culture” at the Colloquium on Baptist Church Music, sponsored by the Center for Christian Music Studies, Baylor University, September 24-25, 2009. This conference was in honor of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the first Baptist church. He was honored to be the conductor for the 41st Annual Concerto-Aria Concert sponsored by OBU, February 15, 2015. OBU students performed with full orchestra featuring works by Haydn, Mozart, Handel, Massenet, Gershwin, Brazilian composer Ney Rosauro, as well as an original composition by one of the students.

Liz Dunbar serves as our Ministries Assistant. She handles all aspects of the daily functions in the church office as well as assisting each area of ministry within the church. She became a follower of Christ just before her 19th birthday. Through many trials and wrong paths she rededicated her life to Christ, the summer of 2006. Since that time God has shown himself faithful again and again. Liz and her husband Tim have been married for 13 years and have two children, Jenna and Garrett. God has taken them on an adventure through multiple states to Oklahoma where they have been since March 2013. Liz’s kingdom passion is worship and helping to lead in that way on Sunday mornings as well as with our youth worship. With two active children, she and her family enjoy spending time together camping and hiking when given the opportunity.
